Description:This side event will examine growing global momentum for reparatory justice following the Ghana-led UN General Assembly resolution recognizing transatlantic enslavement as a crime against humanity and calling for reparations. Grounded in the International Decade for People of African Descent, the AU Decade of Reparations, and the Permanent Forum’s mandate, it will explore pathways such as restitution, institutional reform, and guarantees of non-repetition. Bringing together civil society, policymakers, and experts from Africa and the diaspora, the session aims to generate actionable recommendations, strengthen accountability, and center Afro-descendant voices in global decision-making.
