Ambassador Sidharto R. Suryodipuro was appointed by President Prabowo Subianto of the Republic of Indonesia on 25 August 2025 as the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Indonesia to the United Nations, World Trade Organisation and other International Organisations in Geneva. He was elected by the Human Rights Council as President of the 20th cycle in 2026 on 8 January 2026.
Ambassador Suryodipuro began his diplomatic career in the early 1990s and has since held a wide range of key positions in Jakarta and overseas. His career spans extensive experience in multilateral diplomacy and regional cooperation, including leadership roles related to Asia-Pacific and Southeast Asian affairs.
Prior to his current appointment in Geneva, he served as Director-General for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Cooperation and as Indonesia’s Senior Official to ASEAN, where he contributed to advancing regional dialogue and cooperation on key priorities, including maritime stability, food and energy security, human rights, and the effectiveness of regional institutions. Previously, he served as Ambassador to India and Bhutan, further strengthening Indonesia’s diplomatic engagement across key regions.
His overseas assignments have also included service in New York during Indonesia’s membership in the United Nations Security Council, as well as bilateral postings in Canberra and Washington, D.C., where he served as Deputy Chief of Mission.
Ambassador Suryodipuro holds a Master of Arts in National Security from the Naval Postgraduate School, United States, and a Bachelor of Political Science in International Relations from Parahyangan University, Indonesia. He was born in Cologne, Germany, and is married with three sons.
